High School Geometry Circles Unit Card Game Review
Hither in Colorado, we have two more months of school before summer break, and equally of final week, we accept taught ALL of our math standards! Yay! At present it's on to some collaborative math projects, Stalk activities, and enrichment while we review all of the concepts nosotros worked on this year. Before we begin those super fun activities, though, we had to finish upwards our geometry and measurement unit of measurement, and I'1000 hither to share some of the geometry activities we did!
Geometry Annotation Keeper
For ALL of our geometry concepts, nosotros compiled our notes into a big Geometry Waterfall booklet. We practise A LOT of interactive note-booking throughout the yr, and then I wanted to change information technology up a scrap for this unit, and they actually enjoyed information technology! Here is a peek within our waterfall booklets, which we used earlier all of our geometry activities.
Area and Perimeter
Nosotros started with surface area and perimeter. The notes they took were actually basic since they remembered many of these skills from third class. Here is another blog mail I wrote about perimeter and surface area with a ton of other ideas and activities that we did in the past and did again this go effectually!
These differentiated area and perimeter flipbook lessons are also corking for teaching, skill reinforcement, and engaging do
Line Report
Then, we worked on line study. This is one of my favorite parts because of the line written report action we exercise every year. Kids dearest it SO much! Hither is a look at the very basic page in our booklet…
Now the fun begins! My kids brand their own hands-on line written report packets for practicing. You lot can read more about that in these Geometry Line Study and Geometry Line Written report Take 2 posts.
Angles
Adjacent information technology was on to angels.
This angles anchor chart looks like Then MUCH when it is all put together. However, we did this over the grade of two or three days and walked through each step. It would have been far also overwhelming to do all at once, then I don't recommend it. 🙂 I have blogged about angles and the activities nosotros do in these Geometry Focus: Angles and Angles, Angles, Angles web log posts. This year, I added to this anchor nautical chart with each new lesson, and the kids loved it!
You can as well take your review ofidentifying, measuring, cartoon, and adding angles to the side by side level with this flipbook! Information technology acts as a mini interactive notebook that covers a variety of strategies relating to angles. The left paw side of each folio helps toteach the focus skill, interim equally a mini anchor chart that students interact with and consummate. On the right hand side, students appoint in identifying types of angles, measuring angles, calculating additive angles, cartoon angles, and more!
Polygons
Next, it was on to classifying polygons. We really didn't spend as well much time on this after we made our waterfall booklets. We played a few games during math workshop, and they caught on very rapidly!
Symmetry
Finally, we worked for a day or two on symmetry. Again, they were familiar with the concept, so nosotros took it a bit further with our give-and-take.
They created shapes using pattern blocks and mirrors to check for symmetry. If you've never taught symmetry this way, I HIGHLY recommend it!
Measurement
When nosotros were done with these concepts (which took about three weeks in total, between whole group instruction and math workshop rotations), information technology was on to measurement! On the first day of instruction, we reviewed the difference between Customary and Metric measurement, which was actually a big struggle for a lot of my kids. We as well reviewed relative size using an anchor chart I found on Pinterest! If you are the original creator of this chart, please let me know!
The side by side 24-hour interval, we briefly introduced converting measures, which again, was fairly foreign to almost of them. Information technology was So squeamish that day (and we were in the middle of country testing), so we took it outside. I created a quick lilliputian sheet that gave them specific things to measure on our playground. Then, they had to convert into feet, inches, yards, etc. as well every bit centimeters and meters. It was just the break we needed!
Y'all can download a re-create of the SUPER BASIC recording sheet HERE.
The next mean solar day, we combined all of our geometry and measurement skills with these existent earth task cards. My students loved them then much that they started taking and drawing their own pictures and writing questions! I love to meet students take activity like that.
I more than connexion we made to the real world was with our Geometry Circle Map. Students plant examples in the existent earth and we put them into a circumvolve map. I go along forgetting to take a picture of ours, merely here's one from a few years agone…
Geometry Activities Review Game
One time nosotros were done with measurement, it was time to review ALL of the learning we had done for the past month. This was undeniably the highlight of the unit! I combined all of the concepts we had worked on and fabricated a quiz manner review game using chore cards. Set up was easy because I already had the task cards made for each topic from math workshop. Yous tin can read more about how nosotros play the game with fractions Here (there is besides a link to download the point cards and a recording sheet). This time, though, I made information technology a piffling bit simpler and merely had teams get Total points if they were the first done and got information technology correct, and so the remainder of the kids got half points if they got it correct. That manner at that place is however incentive to cease it and do well!
When a bill of fare was chosen, I would project information technology up on the document photographic camera while groups read and solved it together.
Geometry Activities Chore Bill of fare Bundle
When we were done with the game, my kids BEGGED me to put new cards in it and play once again! You lot can purchase the task cards I used for the review game (and throughout my Unabridged unit) in a Bundle Hither or separately if you lot merely demand a few sets! 🙂
Happy teaching.
